Yu Miao Chinese Immersion Preschool
History
AHSC started Yu Miao Chinese Immersion Preschool in 1999. It is for all who want to expose their children to the Mandarin language and Chinese culture. The preschool’s objective is to help families and children stay in touch with Chinese tradition while thriving in American culture. Our goal is to provide quality education for children between ages 3 and 5.
Initially, Yu Miao functioned out of Chinese Presbyterian Church on Woodstock Boulevard. In 2003, the preschool moved to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Powell Boulevard, renting space there. Classes were held in the morning from Tuesday through Thursday.
In 2007, after repeated requests from families, AHSC decided to expand Yu Miao from three days to five days a week. At the same time, the preschool became a full-day program. To accommodate families, Yu Miao also took on the role of being a day care center.
The preschool moved once again, this time to the former building of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Catholic School on Woodstock Boulevard. The environment is fitting for Yu Miao’s purposes and provides an opportunity for growth.
