Health Fair
We host the Asian Community Health Fair every year as part of the fight against health disparities. The fair, which draws hundreds every year, provides attendees with free health screenings and information about disease prevention, mental health, social services and other resources. August 16, 2008 will be our 7th Asian community Health Fair.
Public Health Programs
Asians experience significant health disparities, particularly with cancer – especially that of the lung, the colon and the liver – cardiovascular disease, hepatitis B, tuberculosis and depression. According to a 2007 report by the Partnership for Prevention, Asians utilize breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings the least of any racial group. They also are the worst about taking aspirin daily to prevent heart disease.
AHSC provides several programs that look to eradicate these poor statistics. We help the Asian community maintain healthy lives with outreach and education that is linguistically and culturally appropriate.
